The St Andrews Citizen newspaper are reporting that the unpopular St Andrews parking voucher system is to be phased out by the 1st of November 2008. It will be replaced by a pay and display system and 28 solar powered ticket machines will be put in the centre of the town.
The parking vouchers were too much hassle. You had to park your car, find a shop that sold parking vouchers, wait in the queue in the shop, buy the voucher, walk back to your car then put it on top of the dashboard. Pay and display should be much better.

In an interview with Vanity Fair magazine, Donald Trump commented regarding his planned Aberdeenshire golf resort “If Jack Nicklaus tried to do this he’d have zero chance, but they like what I’ve done, and because I am who I am and my mother is Scottish, between you and me … I’m going to get it.” I can’t help but think that he’s made an error by making a statement like this. The implication that he can do what he wants because of who he is will no doubt irritate opponents to his plans and also members of the Scottish Parliment. I remember seeing George Sorial, Trump’s head of international development, on the news at a Scottish Parliment inquiry being aggresive when speaking to MSP’s. I can’t see how this strategy will work, they seem to be trying to bully their way through the planning application.

Just noticed today that the St. Andrews Links Trust have a live web cam on their site. There are a few different web cam positions to view, most of them looking onto the Old Course.
Here’s the link if you want to take a look.

I found this interesting blog today about a guy who’s trying to play the top 100 golf courses in the world, according to Golf Magazine’s 2003 rankings. He’s currently played 73, of the 100, and has 10 more scheduled for 2008. He’s already played the 3 courses on the list that are in St. Andrews and the surrounding area, the Old Course, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns, the links will take you to his reviews of these courses.
There are 9 Scottish courses on the list so if you’re planning a golf trip take a look at the reviews on the blog. He’s also written about some Scottish courses not on the top 100 list, which he’s played.
