The Eden Course St. Andrews
History
The Eden Course opened for play in 1914 to help ease the pressure for play on the Old, New and Jubilee courses. Designed by Harry S. Colt, an internationally renowned golf course designer, and updated in 1989 by Donald Steel, the Eden is not in the same league as the three older courses. That doesn’t mean it’s not a good golf course, as it’s useful as an alternative to the three more challenging courses, when you just want to go out and have some fun, while not having to be at your absolute best on each hole. The designer used natural features and field boundary walls to give the course a natural feel. It also has the most undulating greens to be found at the St. Andrews Links.
The Eden runs directly next to The Old Course and shares the same linksland, making it a true links golf course. You’ll need the same variety of shots that you would need to play The Old Course. At 6,200 yards it’s no pushover, with gorse lined fairways and punishing bunkers.
