Parking voucher system to be phased out on August 30

At a meeting of north east Fife area committee in Cupar on Wednesday, councillors voted by nine votes to six to replace the current parking voucher scheme with parking meters. The voucher system will be phased out on the 30th of August.

New direct flight from New York to Edinburgh

From Friday, Delta Airlines will begin a new daily service between New York’s JFK airport and Edinburgh. Travellers will be able to fly to Edinburgh, via JFK, from many US cities, Latin America and the Caribbean.

Due to a codeshare agreement between Delta and Air France,
you can book your flights through Air France.

Trump to appear at golf enquiry

Donald Trump has announced that he will attend the public enquiry into his planned golf resort in Aberdeenshire. The hearing is set to take place in June, ahead of a final ministerial decision.

The plans for the resort include two championship golf courses, 950 holiday homes, 36 golf villas and 500 private homes.

No drug testing at the 2008 British Open

The Royal & Ancient have decided that, as the qualifying tournaments are already underway, no competitors will be tested for drugs at this years British Open. Testing has been scheduled to start on the US and European tours in July. The 2009 British Open will be the first with drugs testing.

Lawrie’s £115m golf plan backed

A golf course designed by former Open champion Paul Lawrie has been granted outline planning permission by Aberdeenshire Council. The project will also see a hotel and hundreds of new houses being built, on a site 6 miles southwest of Aberdeen. The Scottish Government will now be asked to make a final decision on the proposals.

Renee Powell to be honoured by university

Renee Powell is to become the first woman golfer to be honoured by the university of St Andrews. Powell will be made a Doctor of Laws (LLD) on Wednesday 25 June 2008.

Roadworks hurting small businesses in St Andrews

When we were in St Andrews last week I noticed a lot of roadworks in the centre of town. Seems these have really been hurting some of the small businesses, with most of them having a big drop in trade.
